The Biodiversity and Renewable Energy Learning Centre (BRELC) – “the Learning Centre” – officially opened on 24th June 2014. Is situated within a 15-acre forested estate on the edge of the Western Area Peninsula Forest Reserve in Sussex, about 20 km south of the centre of Freetown. The Learning Centre’s unique architectural design is open, inviting and a flagship example of ‘green architecture’.
The Learning Centre is the first centre of its kind in West Africa and aims to be a conduit for knowledge transfer and behavioural change that inspires and informs visitors to protect and restore the environment, adopt sustainable, environmentally friendly technologies and apply good practice solutions to natural resource management.
